Not My Will pano

mara bochart design

In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus beseeched His heavenly Father for release.  Jesus knew the agony of physical death that awaited Him at the cross, but worse, He knew the utter despair that would be His separation from the Father.

Petitioning Him in prayer, Jesus cried “Daddy is there any other way?”  And having no other recourse to reconcile our imperfect humanity with a perfect God, Jesus chose to obey, surrendering Himself to the Father saying, “Yet not My will, but Yours be done.”

Against the backdrop of the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus’ anguish is portrayed in a marble relief found at the third station of the cross along the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem.  The red typeface, reminiscent of dripping blood, calls to mind the degree of Jesus’ distress as He sweat blood praying that night. Jesus chose death so that we who believe can have eternal life.

We give all our praise to the Lord!
